Using the Toshiba Copiers

The Toshiba copiers have now been reconfigured to use a username & password rather than department codes.

The copiers are available free-of-charge to all faculty members currently teaching a course at MCA, and all staff members. Copier usage is monitored, and excessive use will be evaluated as necessary.

The first step is to log in to your account on the printer, as shown below. For faculty, this is your personal labs account on Dali. For staff, this is your account that you use to connect to the admin server at 192.168.1.2.

This is a touchscreen panel. To enter your username, tap on the Username button, then begin to type your username.

Your username will always be fLastName (where f=first initial and LastName=Last Name). When you have typed your username, press Ok in the bottom right corner. Next, press the Password button and type your password.

Once your username and password have been inputted, you can press Ok to log in. After your login is successful, please press the Copy button beside the touchscreen. At this point, copier usage will be identical as before.

If you have finished all copy operations, be sure to press the Access button along the right side of the panel and press Ok to log out, so that no other person can use your PaperCut balance.

If you experience any issues logging in and using this system, please contact the IT Department at helpdesk@mca.edu

Changing the Fiery Paper Type

To produce the best quality prints possible, it is essential that you choose the correct paper type to match the paper you are using in the Fiery. The paper that we provide is classified as “Thick 1,” and all lab computers should have this set as their default.

To check the paper type when you print, please select “Show Details” from the print dialogue box if you do not get a screen as shown below:

On this screen, you will want to click the menu labeled as “Layout” and select “Fiery Features,” as shown below:

On that screen, you will want to check Paper Type and ensure that it is set to “Thick 1.” If you are printing to your own card-stock, or any other type of paper, please change the paper type to the most appropriate setting possible, based on the paper weight.

The following table will illustrate what weights of paper correlate to each label. Typically, this information can be found on the packaging of the paper you purchase, as shown below.

Driver Name Weight
Thin Paper 52-59g/m2
Plain Paper 60-90g/m2
Thick 1 91-120g/m2
Thick 1+ 121-157g/m2
Thick 2 158-209g/m2
Thick 3 201-258g/m2
Thick 4 259-300g/m2

Nesin Grad Center Color Laser

As of Spring Semester 2014, computers in the Graduate Mac Lab at Nesin Hall may now print directly to the color laser printer, located in the Vending/Copy Room across the hall from the Grad Mac Lab.

This printer is available to all registered graduate students at MCA for a charge of $0.15 per 8.5″ print, and $0.30 per 11×17″ print. Cards are available from the business office at Gibson Hall in $10.00 and $20.00 denominations and are only used once to actually add the dollar amount purchased to your account. Print Card balances can be used for both the Fiery at Rust Hall as well as the laser printer at Nesin Hall. Purchases DO NOT roll over from semester to semester and are not valid after the date listed on the bottom right of the card.

Paper sizes available/prices:

ONLY THE PAPER SIZES LISTED BELOW WILL WORK. IF YOU PRINT AND NOTHING HAPPENS AT THE PRINTER, BUT YOU SEE NO ERRORS ON YOUR COMPUTER, CHECK THE PAPER SIZE YOU HAVE DEFINED IN PAGE SETUP. IF IT’S NOT SET TO ONE OF THE BELOW SIZES, YOUR DOCUMENT WILL NOT PRINT.

Paper Size: Cost:
8.5 x 11 (single-sided) $0.15
8.5 x 11 (double-sided) $0.30
11 x 17 (single-sided) $0.30
11 x 17 (double-sided) $0.60

Printing double-sided documents:

Double-sided printing is selected in two locations. You will want to select the checkbox for “Two-sided” beside the number of copies you wish to print. Additionally, if you want to print a bound booklet, you will want to navigate to the “Printer Features” section of the print driver options. Make the appropriate settings for booklet binding as desired.

If you have any “misprints” or errors when printing, save them and come see Jeff at Rust Hall during regular working hours (from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday) to discuss credits/refunds. They must be “genuine” misprints though, not just “I selected the wrong options” to get refunds.

Resuming Paused Printers

During your time in the labs, you may periodically experience a printer that has become paused and will not print.

Printers will become paused if you attempt to send a print job while the printer is out of paper or toner, if the printer has a paper jam, or if a student logs out of the computer while they are sending a job to the printer.

If you need to resume a printer, please follow these steps to diagnose and fix the problem:

First, make sure that any issues with the printer itself have been resolved. Check to see that there is paper in the appropriate tray, and that there are no warning messages on the display.

Second, when you are attempting to print, make sure that you do not see an exclamation point beside the printer you are attempting to print to, as illustrated below.

If you see this warning, it is likely that your print job will fail to go through. More than likely, this is because the printer is either off or paused. At that point, you will want to open System Preferences (accessible from the Apple Menu in the upper-left corner of the screen) and navigate to the Print & Scan page. If the printer is paused, you will see that message in that window, as shown below.

Should you double click on the printer in question, you will be presented with a screen that has a large green button to resume the printer. You will want to press that button.

At this point, if the computer asks you for a password, you will want to use student for both the username and password, as shown below.

This process will work while you are logged in to your personal labs log-in, and will work on any printer in any lab.

If you experience difficulties with this process, please email helpdesk@mca.edu. Be sure to include the name of the computer you are using, as well as the printer you were attempting to print to.
